Smart Surge Protection Makes it Easy to Live Green and Save Money January 7, 2010 - (Fremont, CA) Accell, a provider of premium audio, video and computer connectivity, today announced it will introduce its new product line of environmentally friendly GreenGenius™ Smart Surge Protectors. Most electronic devices draw unnecessary power when idle, in standby mode or even when turned off. A Department of Energy study showed that 15% of the energy an average household uses is for standby current. When the GreenGenius Smart Surge Protector is used, it automatically turns off the power to idle devices, eliminating electricity usage and saving money. "The GreenGenius products use a patented technology, knowing when to turn off idle devices and when to turn them back on," said Michael Weizer, director of marketing, Accell. "In some cases it can pay for itself in energy savings in as little as a few months. CES is a great opportunity to showcase this line of energy-saving products, as attendees are anxious to see the variety of innovative green solutions being introduced." The GreenGenius Smart Surge Protectors feature a Control Outlet, energy-saving Switched Outlets and Always-On Outlets. The Control Outlet is ideal for products such as computers, whereas the Switched Outlets, for example, work with any device used with a computer, such as a printer or monitor. A sensory constantly monitors the flow of electricity to the Control Outlet, so when there is an increase or decrease in the flow of electricity, the surge protector automatically turns on or off the power to the Switch Outlets, thus saving valuable amounts of energy.
